5 Ways to Make Your Home Healthier in 2015

It is health that is real wealth and not

In 2015 many New Year’s resolutions will involve health.  The usual gamut of resolutions include: lose weight, go to the gym more often, eat healthier, start a new diet, etc.  You can still have a health-focused resolution, but why not start with your home? Here are 5 ways you can make your home healthier in 2015.

  • Steam Clean Instead of Dry Clean

Steam cleaning your clothes instead of taking them to a dry cleaner is more of a time commitment, but you may be happy to no longer have a dry cleaning bill.  When you send your clothes off to the dry cleaner, you don’t know exactly what chemicals your clothes are being treated with. Steam cleaning simply involves heat and water and removes the wrinkles from your clothes.

  • Add An Indoor Plant

Indoor plants will increase the air quality in your home. Studies have shown that plants can also increase productivity.  A little herb garden in your window with some fresh basil or mint would make a great addition to your kitchen and may even help improve your cooking!

  • Ban Dust From Your Home

Dust in your Home can aggravate allergies.  More frequent dusting or vacuuming at least twice a week can help alleviate allergies. If you don’t have time to keep your dust under control, you can always book an appointment with us! 🙂

  • Ditch Pesticides

In Texas we get critters.  A seasoned Texan may encounter a scorpion in the bath tub, ants in crooks and crannies and mosquitos on the patio in the summer.  These pests are annoying and we wouldn’t want to share our home with creatures who don’t pay rent.  However, we don’t want unnecessary chemicals in our homes either.  There are some ways to preemptively prevent pests, like keeping your house clean, dishes washed with no food residue, tightly closed food containers, sealing cracks and caulking areas where bugs may get in like around the bases of toilets.  Other options include natural pest deterrents include diatomaceous earth, baking soda, chili pepper, etc.

  • Use Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

This may be blatantly obvious because we are a green cleaning company that practices what we preach.  Conventional cleaning products with warning or poison labels have them for a reason.  Asthma prone kids and pets may especially feel the effects of harsh chemicals.  In addition, these toxic chemicals pollute both your home and the environment.  We make our own homemade green cleaning products. You can buy them online here.  Or better yet, let The Purple Fig help keep your Home healthy in 2015!

We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2015!
